JOURNAL OF ARTS AND CULTURAL STUDIES(ACS) is a peer-reviewed, interdisciplinary, English-language academic journal. It publishes high-quality research focusing on art and cultural studies, encompassing related areas within the humanities, arts, and social sciences. The journal aims to provide an international platform for scholarly exchange and academic dissemination among researchers from diverse cultural backgrounds.

The journal adopts a diamond open access publishing model, accepts submissions on a rolling basis throughout the year, and follows a continuous online publication system. It is indexed in DOAJ, RISS, Google Scholar, and AccessON, and is currently listed as a KCI Candidate Journal in the Korea Citation Index (KCI).

The journal is committed to the continuous improvement of academic quality and aligns its editorial and review standards with internationally recognized citation databases, including A&HCI and SSCI.

2. Aims and Scope
The journal welcomes scholarly contributions across a broad range of research areas related to art and cultural studies, including but not limited to:

  • Art and design theory
  • Art and design practice
  • Arts communication, cultural policy, and arts management
  • Cultural studies and cultural heritage studies

Specific topics include cultural arts, aesthetics (including philosophy of art), art theory, design theory and practice, visual arts, dance studies, music and performance studies, new media art, AIGC-related art, arts management, film and television studies, moving image studies, architecture and spatial studies, intangible cultural heritage, intellectual property studies related to art and culture, as well as sustainability studies related to art and culture (including ecological design, social innovation, and cultural sustainability).

3. Types of Manuscripts
The journal accepts original research articles, review articles, as well as case studies, methodological papers, and other scholarly works that fall within the journal’s scope. Submissions employing qualitative, quantitative, or mixed-method approaches are welcome, including practice-based research, design research, comparative studies, experimental research, and methodological innovation. Manuscripts grounded in specific regional or national contexts, including data analysis, case studies, and fieldwork-based research, are also encouraged.

4. Language Policy and Peer Review
The journal accepts submissions in English, Chinese, and Korean. All manuscripts are subject to double-blind peer review. While submissions may be written and reviewed in Chinese or Korean, all accepted papers are published in English. Authors affiliated with institutions in countries where English is not an official language are required, upon acceptance, to submit an English version that has been professionally edited by a native English-speaking academic editor prior to publication.

5. Manuscript Preparation
Manuscripts do not need to be formatted at the initial submission stage, nor are authors required to strictly follow the journal template upon first submission. The journal follows APA referencing style, which authors are encouraged to observe. Final formatting adjustments will be required after acceptance in accordance with editorial guidelines. The recommended length of the main text is 6,000–12,000 English words, depending on the nature and scope of the manuscript.

6. Review and Publication Process
All submissions are first screened by the editorial office, typically within 72 hours. Manuscripts passing the initial screening proceed to double-blind peer review, with a standard review period of approximately four weeks. An optional expedited review service is available, with an average review time of seven business days, and does not influence editorial decisions. Once a manuscript is accepted and all post-acceptance procedures are completed, the article will be published online within seven business days.

7. Journal Information
The journal is a free open-access academic journal and operates on a year-round online submission and continuous online publication model. All articles are published online in electronic form, and no regular print edition is provided. The journal follows a one-volume-per-year publication system, with content archived into two issues each year. The electronic ISSN (e-ISSN) is 2951-0627, and the print ISSN (p-ISSN) is 2950-869X (registered for journal identification purposes only; in principle, no print edition is produced, though printing may be arranged when necessary).

8. Publication Fees and Waiver Policy
The journal does not charge submission fees, review fees, membership fees, or annual fees. An Article Processing Charge (APC) is applied only after a manuscript is formally accepted. For manuscripts of 1–10 pages, the APC is USD 300 (approximately KRW 430,000 / CNY 2,100). Pages exceeding 10 are charged at USD 33 per page (approximately KRW 50,000 / CNY 225).

Authors may apply for full or partial APC waivers in accordance with the journal’s waiver policy, which follows the World Bank’s annual classification of developing countries based on Gross National Income (GNI) per capita. Fees for editorial services, English language editing, and expedited peer review are not eligible for waiver or reduction.

Optional services—available at the author’s discretion and not affecting editorial decisions—include expedited peer review (USD 200), manuscript formatting services (USD 33), and professional English language editing (USD 0.02 per word). Manuscripts edited through the journal’s language editing service do not require additional proof of language editing. Authors may alternatively submit certification from recognized third-party editing services such as Editage or Wordvice.

9.Academic Integrity and Similarity Check Policy
The journal places great importance on academic integrity and research originality. All submitted manuscripts must be original research works and must not involve plagiarism, duplicate publication, or any other form of academic misconduct. After a manuscript has passed peer review and is provisionally accepted, authors are required to submit a similarity check report together with the final version of the manuscript, and the overall similarity of the final published version should generally not exceed 15%; English manuscripts must be checked using iThenticate. For manuscripts submitted in Chinese or Korean, the Editorial Office may, when necessary, require authors to additionally submit similarity check reports for the corresponding language versions, with Chinese manuscripts checked using China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) and Korean manuscripts checked using the Korean Citation Index (KCI) official similarity check system. Similarity check results are used solely as a basis for the review of academic standards; properly cited content, reference lists, and commonly used academic expressions are not regarded as inappropriate duplication. In cases of serious academic misconduct, the journal reserves the right to reject the manuscript or retract the published article.
