The purpose of this study was to develop academic support system for unsuccessful academic students through· the. comparison of the characteristics of academic performance between the high achievers and under achievers in the university. To develop academic support system this study was attempted. to suggest the model. of academic support system and to develope a group program for academic support. The subjects of this study were 134 students who have been dropped from the rolls for their low grade(under achievers) and 112 students whose GPA averaged 3.7 5(high achievers). The results of the analysis of academic characteristics of the two groups showed that. under achievers were not satisfied with their college/major and university, had negative attitude toward their academic study. And their low motivation and self-efficacy, poor study habit, and poor strategy for learning and time management are related to the low academic achievement. From the results of this study, we suggest the model of academic support system which involve psychological support, strategy for learning and systematically structured support system. In addition, we tried to develop a group program for academic support.
