This study was designed to investigate the relationship among parent-child attachment, perception of inter-parental conflict and child's self-esteem. The subjects for this study include six hundred and one 6th graders (307 boys and 294 girls) in thirteen primary schools from twelve districts in Seoul. The results of this study are as follows. First, the higher the father-mother attachment, the higher the child's self-esteem and the lower the perception of inter-parental conflict. However, the wider the gap between father attachment and mother attachment, the lower the self-esteem and the higher the perception of inter-parental conflict. Second, the perception of inter-parental conflict and self-esteem was negatively correlated. Higher perception of inter-parental conflict was related to the lower self-esteem, particularly family-self, one of sub-scales of self-esteem, has the strongest negative correlation with perception of inter-parental conflict. Lastly, the results of the regression analysis of the influence of father-mother attachment and perception of inter-parental conflict on child's self-esteem show that father attachment, perception of inter-parental conflict and mother attachment in order of strength influence on a child's self-esteem.
