The purpose of this study was to develop and validate a measurement to assess our ability to conceptualize a counseling case. Through factor analysis, a 21-item case conceptualization scale was completed, and 4 factors were identified. These were comprehensive understanding of clients' problems (10 items), the attitude and viewpoint of the counselor (3 items), counselor's awareness of clients’ current inner and external situation (4 items), and the goals and strategies needed to be employed (4 items). The inner consistency reliability coefficient ranged from .73 to .87, and the overall inner consistency reliability coefficient was .91. The test-retest was separated by 2 weeks and it showed good reliability with a Cronbach α of .90. Correlation analysis with Lee's assessment method (2000) was run to test the concurrent validity of the newly developed measurement. Furthermore, correlation analysis with a Counselor Developmental Level Questionnaire, counselor's career, and counseling outcome was run to test the criterion-related validity. It seems that the newly developed Case Conceptualization Assessment Scale could provide important information to the counseling and supervision field on how and what should be explored. Moreover, it could be used to investigate the development of counselor's case conceptualization abilities.
