Abstract

<Chinatown(2014)>is a women film noir Kim HyeSoo and Kim KoEun acted as protagonist and antagonist. The abnormal and strange actions the film noir show mean the contradiction in the world. Especially the women characters are very important in the feminism. Because they break the patriarchy by getting out of the status as mother, wife and daughter. The strength and charisma Mother as a woman boss showed was very stately than men boss. IlYoung showed the special relationship of mother and daughter by the illegal adoption to use her mother as a sacrificial offering of her initiation. But they show a mortal relationship and sisterhood in the ending scene. The collapse of the normal family relation shows the deviation from the marriage, patriarchy and family relation based on the authority and power the dominant ideology wants to keep. They make the counter ideology to the former society system by moral rules. Mother and IlYoung try to seek the way to get out of the patriarchy order to return to the matriarchy. They choose the subjective life not to go into the former order by marriage. They harden the status of matriarch by the initiation of the cruel death. They show the resistance to the patriarchy, try to break the men centric discourse and play the subversive roles. Mother and IlYoung far from sexuality as men’s desire realize the meaning of the women film noir. They are not exhibited as the object of the inspectionism. Men and women are equal and the only powerful person performs the power. It’s a important feminist film because we can see the equal relation between men and women.
