Abstract

This article summarizes the discussions arising from the roundtable titled “Division of Labor and Solidarity: New Forms of Academic Publicness – An Open Dialogue with Editors of Korean Modern Literature” held at the annual symposium of the Knowledge Sharing Alliance. Chief editors, editorial board members, and editorial staff from five academic societies related to modern literature participated in the roundtable. The discussion covered various topics, including the composition and operation of editorial boards, challenges in the editorial process, standardization of academic paper formats and references, academic data management and copyright issues, and the future of academic knowledge sharing in the AI era. Throughout the discussion, academic journal editors shared the practical difficulties they faced, explored collaborative strategies to strengthen the publicness of scholarship in Korean modern literature, and proposed tangible improvements to the academic environment based on their experiences. Participants emphasized the need for solidarity among academic societies to address the challenges posed by the rapidly evolving digital landscape and advancements in AI technology. Additionally, they proposed specific steps to establish a cooperative body among academic journal editors.
