Abstract
This thesis is to examine the Islands Cadastre of Jangheung County, Chulla Province 1846. It was the so-called Eupryangan(邑量案) regarding Myongbinbang farm in Islands-myon(面), Jangheung County. Islands-myon was developed into the official Myon in the middle of the 18th century, increasing migration and population since 17th century. This areas consisted of two region, one region was coastal area, the other one was islands area. As the results of the analysis, the main part of this area was dry field land(about 73%), and the devastated land showed 30% of sample land. Especially, islands area were more low level than coastal area in the qualitative state of agricultural field. However, the reclamation rate in Islands-myon was 10% of sample size. The fact showed the survival power of little peasants in spite of bad circumstances. There were three types of reclamation in Islands-myon. First type was Ipjeon(入田) that reclamated mountain to dry field in mountain area. Second type was Byundap(反畓) that transformed dry field to paddy field in valley area. Third type was Haetaek(海澤) that reclamated low- leveled sea to paddy field in coastal area. In spite of the high rate of devastated land, reclamation activity represented the steady growth in islands agriculture. The main calss of reclamation was less than 50 Bu(負) layer peasants. Especially the below 25 Bu(負) layer accounted for 42.4% of total peasants. Facing the pressure of population increase, peasants pursuited of the labor-intensive farming technology.
