Curricula of Visits to Bulguk Monastery and Seokbul Temple in English

Abstract

This paper aims at developing curricula for visits to Bulguk Monastery and Seokbul Temple, which are UNESCO world heritage sites, for both graduate and undergraduate students who are enrolled in English-language Korean Studies programs in Korea. To this end, this research was based on my personal teaching experiences in the U.S.A. and Korea. Section One examined curricula for visits to cultural heritage sites located in the metropolitan areas of contemporary Korea. Section Two evaluated the curricula and discussed issues for better site visits. Finally, Section Three proposed curricula for visits to Bulguk Monastery and Seokbul Temple. However, these curricular were tentative and they are in need of continued revision based on their actual application to visits to these world cultural heritage sites.
