Abstract
Sexual minorities are nonrecognized or disregarded within society, nation and family they belong to. Even in their own families they are misrecognized and excluded, unlike other minorities, and they are denied and refused from gaining rights and respect from the state. Also, the socially justified valuation standards place them at the lowest rank. A more systematic and concrete understanding of their nonrecognized status can be attained through the lense of recognition theory. Based on the investigation, this paper accentuates that materially, institutionally, and culturally, the social value of sexual minorities should be changed to recognize them as equal social members. Furthermore, we need new social imagination to overcome difficulties facing the struggle to construct a new cultural value system.
