Abstract

This study examined the ideology and practice of knowledge sharing of Korean studies, focusing on the process of transition to the Open Access publishing of the journals of Korean language and literature and the idea of “Open Publicness.” The idea of knowledge sharing of Korean studies implies the pursuit of academic knowledge as the commons. The Korean society celebrates the idea of knowledge sharing among all citizens based on the ideologies of non-rivalry and non-excludability. Accordingly, researchers of Korean language and literature have converted the publication of academic journals to Open Access to promote the dissemination of academic knowledge. In the process of knowledge sharing, the Korean society independently conducted the production and management of academic knowledge. The societies related to Korean language and literature collaborated with other academic societies and reconstructed a new knowledge production, management, and sharing model from the perspective of researchers. Furthermore, to expand the horizon of knowledge sharing for Korean studies, it is necessary to discuss issues such as shadow labor as the basis for academic knowledge production, support from public institutions through governance, and questions about researchers’ platforms and new forms of academic knowledge. The ideology and practice of knowledge sharing of Korean studies seek the restructuring of the academic field and culture of Korean studies based on the promotion of academic knowledge and subjectivity of researchers.
