Abstract

This study reconsiders the conceptuality of Choi In-hun’s fiction as a form of thought produced within sentences. Ten complete texts are analyzed through sentence length and variation, interrogative and ambiguous-deictic markers, dialogue and non-dialogue narration, abstract, sensory, temporal, and spatial markers, lexical diversity, and repetitionvariation. Quantitative distributions select pressure points for close reading rather than determine interpretation. Several short stories exhibit high mean sentence length, while The Gray Man records the greatest variation. Question density does not coincide with the amount of dialogue, and questions and deixis unsettle judgment within narration as well as direct speech. Abstract vocabulary also returns to scenes through sensory, temporal, and spatial markers. These patterns support the hypothesis that conceptuality emerges as sentences extend, break, and interrogate their own grounds. Because no comparison corpus is used and the genealogy of the analyzed editions cannot be fully reconstructed, the claims remain restricted to these ten texts. This study redefines conceptuality as a formal process generated within sentences and proposes an auditable sequence from numerical pattern to textual pressure point and close reading.
