This study investigates the effect of socially prescribed perfectionism on interpersonal problems and the double mediating effect of self-discouragement, and ambivalence over emotional expressiveness. For the purposes of this study, data from 356 college students were collected and analyzed using SPSS 22.0 and AMOS 22.0. The results were as follows: (1) socially prescribed perfectionism had positive effect on interpersonal problems, self-discouragement and ambivalence over emotional expressiveness. (2) self-discouragement and ambivalence over emotional expressiveness had a double mediating effect between socially prescribed perfectionism and interpersonal problems; (3) it was revealed that different features of ambivalence (,which are sub-factors of ambivalence over emotional expressiveness,) have an impact on different interpersonal problems, and self-defense ambivalence has a greater degree of experiencing interpersonal problems than relational ambivalence. Based on these results, the implications, study limitations, and suggestions for future research were discussed.
