백낙청 초기 비평의 인식과 구조

초록

백낙청의 초기 비평에서 가장 중요한 비평적 기획은 건전한 놀이, 곧 '즐김'으로서 문학의 이상적인 기능과 위상을 수립하는 것이었다. 특히 그의 참여가 역사적 현실의 참여가 아니라 문학의 조건을 개선하기 위한 참여였다는 점은 주목할 사실이다.그의 초기 비평은 양비론적 인식구조와 서술전략, 그리고 역사적 상황인식에 기반을 두고 있으며, 풍부한 서구문학적 지식을 활용하면서 비평의 설득력을 확보한다. 그러나 문제는 새로운 문학을 정립하기 위한 절실함에 비례하여 이상주의적인 경향과 추상적 관념화를 드러낸다는 점에 있다. 이러한 인식적 특성은 그의 비평 전체에 걸쳐 변화와 지속의 측면으로 나타난다. 중요한 변화는 초기 비평의 문제점들을 극복하면서 '민족문학론'으로 심화, 확장시켜나가는 과정에서 찾을 수 있다. 그러나 동시에 이상주의적 성향과 관념적 추상화 역시 지속적으로 산견된다. 백낙청 비평의 한계이자 90년대 민족문학의 위기와 직결된 이러한 문제점은 초기 비평에서부터 내재되어 있었던 것이다.

Abstract

The most key critical planning in Baek, Nak-cheong's early criticism was to establish the ideal role and position of literature with sound play, i.e., 'enjoying'. Importantly, the fact to be noticed is that the his engagement corresponded to one for improving literature conditions rather than engagement in historical reality. The early criticism of Baek, Nak-cheong is based upon critical cognitive structure and of both the parties, predicative strategies and historical recognition of the current state. In addition, he uses plenty of his knowledge about the western literature to secure the persuasion of criticism. However, there is a problem that in proportion to his urgency to establish new literature are shown idealistic tendency and abstract ideations. These cognitive characteristics are shown in the aspect of variation and continuation throughout his criticism. Remarkable changes can be found in the course of developing into ‘national literature theory(민족문학론)’ as the problems of his early criticism were resolved with overcoming. At the same time, however, idealistic tendency and ideological abstraction are also still seen constantly. These problems connected directly with the crisis of national literature in the 1990s and the limitations of his criticism are essentially derived from his early criticism.
