초록

≪풍산김씨세전서화첩≫은 1860년대 초 풍산김씨의 24세손 김중휴가 집안의 역사와 조상의 행적을 기록한 그림과 글을 모아 편찬한 서화첩이다. 16세기 초부터 18세기 전반에 걸친 김중휴의 직계조상 19명과 관련된 32장의 그림은 연회도가 주를 이루며 나머지는 중국 사행, 의병 활동, 은거지를 그린 그림, 조상의 훌륭한 인품을 칭송한 내용의 그림들이다. 이 세전서화첩은 집안의 보물로 전승되었다는 점에서 가전화첩의 성격을 지닌다. 또한 대부분의 그림이 애초에 사실의 기록을 목적으로 그려졌으므로 사가기록화라 할 수 있는데, 서울 경기 지역이 아닌 경상도라는 지방 관아의 행사도와 지방 사족의 생활 모습을 보여준다는 점에서 주목되었다. 한편, 사화(私畵)로 출발하여 화원이 되었다고 생각되는 김수운과 단성 지방의 지방화사인 오삼도라는 두 화가에 대한 정보도 얻을 수 있었다.

Abstract

The album painting of the Pungsan Kim family includes writings and paintings on the Pungsan Kim family’s history and its family members’ achievements. This album painting was compiled in the early 1860s by Kim Joong-hyu, the twenty-fourth descendant of the Kims of Pungsan. Its thirty-two paintings are on Kim Joong-hyu’s nineteen ancestors from his lineal bloodline who lived from the early sixteenth century to the early eighteenth century. The paintings in the album treat the theme of family banquet, which takes the majority of the subjects of the album, and other themes such as envoy missions to China, loyal troop activities, hermitage places, and the ancestors’ respectable personality. This painting had been handed down from generation to generation as a family treasure. The paintings were created in order to record the family events and its ancestors’ works and respectable appearances. Those paintings’ detailed pictorial representation has drawn much attention from scholars since they depict the events of local government offices and local scholar-officials’ life around the Gyeongsang-do area, while the backgrounds of many other documentary paintings of scholar-official family are Seoul and Gyeonggi-do area. Also, this album painting provides valuable resources on two painters, a court painter, Kim Soo-woon, and a local painter of the Dan-seong area, Oh Sam-do.
