Abstract
The purpose of this study is to explore the viable directions of religious education for the religious alternative schools in view of present multi-religious and cultural Korean society overall. To do this, firstly, we pointed out the association between alternative schools (alternative education) and religion. In reference to this, in the 2nd. chapter, we sorted out alternative school movement as private level and governmental level and also found out religious circle actively participated for the establishment of alternative schools or switching over specialized schools. In the third chapter, we pointed out that among the specialized schools more than 70% of them are religious alternative schools, made reference to solidarity movement among religious alternative schools and its’ religious education. For this part, we found out there exists close connection between religion and alternative schools (alternative education). Finally, based upon above discussion, we analyzed directions of alter- native religious education focused on protestant alternative schools. In the process of reviewing, we reflected the alternative character of religion education of alternative schools and raised the needs for re-defining the concept of alternative religious education. For this, from the understanding of the differences between formal education and alternative education with respect to methodological, philosophical or paradigmatic shift aspects of between alternative religion education and religion education for general religious schools. Also, we pointed out that where to put more emphasis on the education for religious alternative school, alternative for certain religion or alternative for educational issues for its’ society overall. Through the discourse mentioned in the above, we came up to point that needs for setting up alternative religious education instead of religious education that stressed certain faith or belief in the name of alternative education. In this context, the overall situation of Korea is multi-cultural and multi- religious society and types of human-being required in its’ society, eco- logical value, completion for ‘rationality of communication,’ general identity of alternative education that aiming toward communality identity should be considered. Hope this research will increase the understanding of association between alternative school(alternative education) and religion. Also, it will contribute productive discussions for alternative religion education from the macro- scopic viewpoint.
