The humanities research methodology represented by ‘writing’ is not wholly to blame for the atrophy of the culture dealing with sophisticated academic knowledge. It has to do with long-standing barriers between humanities majors, as well as the practical realities of the academic environment, where writing based on it is entwined with the research performance evaluation system and links to job channels. Furthermore, the rapid changes in literacy brought about by the advent of digital technology necessitates the ongoing modification of ‘academic writing’, regardless of the practical issues that face academics. This paper provides examples for academic knowledge data processing in the humanities in this context by focusing on two points of view. The first is to see how ‘data’ can be used to archive academic papers in the humanities and connect the knowledge contained within them. The second is to look at ways to actively ‘participate’ in the process of gathering academic knowledge, rather than just using academic material in a digital environment through case review. By exchanging diverse information collected via academic research, data can connect understanding of different fields amongst majors, bypassing the existing academic environment's closed structure, which is characterized by ‘major’, ‘writing’, and ‘knowledge’. Finding new ways to create and use data in the academic environment of humanities is a proactive concern for improving the existing situation and preparing for the future academic environment.
