JBAS operates in accordance with the principles of transparency and best practices in academic publishing, as well as other COPE guidelines, to ensure the integrity of the content it publishes. This policy is in line with the 'Research Ethics Guide for Humanities and Social Sciences' provided by the National Research Foundation of Korea (NRF)'s Research Ethics Information Portal (CRE). Additionally, the JBAS research/publication ethics refer to the research/publication ethics guidelines of the globally recognized New Testament Studies journal.
1. Open Access Option
JBAS is an online journal that offers authors the option to make
their papers open access.
Open Access
Through the ACOMS+ submission system used by JBAS, authors can publish their
papers as open access under a Creative Commons license. This allows anyone to
access and redistribute the content, specify copyright in new or derivative works, and reuse the content according to the license.
2. Publishing ethics
JBAS is published in accordance with the principles of transparency and best practices in academic publishing that apply to authors, peer reviewers, the editorial board, and the entire journal, as well as other COPE guidelines (https://publicationethics.org/) and the Research Ethics Guide for Humanities and Social Sciences provided by the National Research Foundation of Korea's (NRF) Research Ethics Information Portal. Please inform us at the JBAS email, jlsk24@naver.com, if you believe JBAS has not adhered to the publication ethics guidelines.
Affiliations: All affiliations in the paper should list the institutions that conducted, supported, or approved the research. In the case of
non-research content, all affiliations should indicate the institutions to
which each author is currently affiliated. Intentionally providing false or
fraudulent affiliation information is a form of misconduct and can lead to the
retraction of the paper.
Authorship: All authors listed in papers submitted to JBAS may
be considered authors.
According to academic norms, it must be agreed that no authors who could be involved are present.
Considered authors have been excluded. In the event of a dispute or a request for clarification,
Changes will prompt JBAS to take appropriate action at any stage of the publication process in accordance with the relevant procedures.
- Qualification criteria for authorship: Qualifying criteria for authorship Qualifying criteria for authorship: substantial contributions to the conception or design of the work; data collection, analysis, or interpretation for the work; drafting the work or critically revising it for important intellectual content; final approval of the version to be published; agreement to be accountable for all aspects of the work in ensuring that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved (refer to ICMJE guidelines).

Plagiarism:
Text recycling:
Text recycling, also known as self-plagiarism, refers to the
situation where an author reuses parts of text from their previous publications
without proper citation. This is distinguished from duplicate publication or
self-plagiarism, which refers to the large-scale repeated publication of texts
or data with at least one common author. JBAS will follow the Cope/CRE
guidelines when assessing the acceptability of text recycling in a specific
manuscript. If text recycling is not acceptable, the submitted manuscript may
be rejected. Published papers may require changes after the publication notice,
as explained in the withdrawal, revision, and expression of concerns below.
Reprints, Supplements, and Translations:
JBAS grants third parties copyright and ancillary rights under the CC license, allowing them to reproduce, reuse, or modify the content of this journal in various contexts, languages, and regions.
Questionable research practices and research misconduct:
- Image Manipulation: When research data is collected or presented as images, modifying these images can sometimes misrepresent the obtained results or their significance. While there may be legitimate reasons to modify images, authors should avoid altering images that lead to distortion, manipulation, or misrepresentation of results. All claims or discoveries of image manipulation will be investigated and addressed according to COPE/CRE guidelines, which may result in corrections, retractions, or other notices being applied to the paper.
- Fraudulent Research and Research Misconduct: If an author, reader, or peer reviewer raises allegations of research misconduct with the journal, the journal's primary concern is the integrity of the published content. The editor will investigate the allegations in collaboration with the JBAS Editorial Board and appropriate institutions or organizations, following COPE/CRE guidelines. Retraction, correction, or expression of concern actions may be taken for publications found to include research misconduct or violations.
Corrections, Retractions, and Expressions of Concern:
Corrections: Minor changes can be made to the approved manuscript during proofreading, typesetting, or editing, but they are usually not made to the First View or Versions of Record unless they don't affect the paper's interpretation. If the author discovers an error in the published paper, a correction notice will be used. If an error is found in the journal, an erratum (correction notice) will be used.
- Retractions: This journal considers retraction in accordance with COPE/CRE retraction guidelines. Withdrawals are generally used for papers that contain serious flaws to the extent that they are deemed unreliable, significant plagiarism, life-threatening content, or report unethical research.
- Expressions of concern: Sometimes, when there are issues with the reliability or authenticity of a publication, but the investigation takes an unusually long time or is impossible, the editor may choose to post a statement of concern in the paper to warn readers to interpret the content carefully.
Permanence of the published record:
The JBAS Editorial Board keeps track of all publications published by the journal, including details (metadata) about each one. While all possible publications are permanently preserved, in
cases of research misconduct, defamation, violation of privacy or
confidentiality laws, or court orders, papers may be removed from online
publication to comply with legal obligations, and a notice clearly explaining
the reason for the removal of the entire paper may be posted.
Peer review:
JBAS generally has two or more independent reviewers evaluate the manuscript for consideration for publication in the journal. The review process uses a double-blind review model.
Disclosure of interests and funding:
All authors submitting papers to JBAS must include a conflict of interest declaration. This declaration may undergo editorial review and can be published with the paper. Peer reviewers must declare any conflicts of interest that arise during the peer review process. If a conflict of interest is found between the author and the reviewer, the reviewer must withdraw from the review. If there is a suspected undisclosed conflict of interest regarding work published or under review in this journal, please inform the JBAS Editorial Board via email (jlsk24@naver.com).
Libel, defamation, and freedom of expression:
False statements that harm the reputation of individuals, groups,
or organizations beyond the scope of freedom of expression are not permitted.
If the author is concerned that their manuscript or publication contains
potentially defamatory content, please inform the JBAS Editorial Board via
email (jlsk24@naver.com).
Appeals:
An appeal against an editorial decision must specify the
manuscript. 1) The appeal will only be considered if the editor or reviewer
made a significant factual error or major misunderstanding regarding the
manuscript, or 2) based on evidence proving that the integrity of the editorial
decision process was compromised. Generally, only one appeal per manuscript
decision stage will be considered. If you suspect any undisclosed conflicts of
interest regarding work published or under review in this journal, please
inform the relevant editor or notify the JBAS Editorial Board via email at
jlsk24@naver.com.
3. Research transparency
JBAS values transparent and reproducible research. Authors should follow best practices when reporting methodology, including research design, sources used and their details, and selection procedures. Whenever possible, authors are encouraged to make available the evidence supporting their research findings, such as quantitative data or qualitative materials, for readers to verify. To recognize the importance of all types of research outputs, authors are encouraged to cite the materials and data used in their research along with the literature.
4. Rights and permissions
The open access content of the ACOMS+ submission system used by JBAS is published under the CCL (Creative Commons License), allowing readers to freely view, download, and distribute the content. If you are an author who has published with JBAS and would like to know how to share and reuse the content of your publication, please refer to the copyright transfer agreement when submitting your manuscript. The JBAS Editorial Board supports the responsible social sharing of published research.
