정보사회 공공도서관의 사회적 역할

초록

정보사회에서 공공도서관은 급변하는 사회환경에 처해 있다. 탈인쇄문명의 도래, 지식의 팽창, 성찰성의 확대, 직업의 유연성 증대 등은 공공도서관에게 위기와 기회를 동시에 가져오고 있다. 공공도서관은 인쇄물이나 컴퓨터 파일 형태의 출판물은 물론이고 D/B 형태의 자료까지 확보해야 하며, 주민과 기업의 교육 및 조사활동에 대한지원을 대폭 강화해야 할 것이다. 또한 공공도서관은 정보격차의 해소, 공동체의 교류, 여가활동의 제공에도 크게 기여할 수 있을 것이다. 이러한 역할을 수행하기 위해서 공공도서관은 적극적인 프로그램 개발과 대주민 홍보에 힘써야 할 것이다.

Abstract

In the information society public libraries are situated in a rapidly changing social environment. Coming of post-printing era, expansion of knowledge, enhancement of social reflexivity, and growing flexibility of jobs, etc are bringing both crisis and opportunity to them. In order to take chances public libraries must collect materials in D/B format as well as printed and computer-file forms, and enlarge assistance to educational and research activities of residents and business firms. In addition, they must contribute to reducing information divide, increasing communal interactions, and providing leisure activities. It is required for them to develop a variety of programs and strengthen publicity among residents.
