본 연구는 유아 자녀의 자기조절에 영향을 미치는 어머니의 심리적 특성을 규명하기 위해, 어머니의 정신화가 유아의 자기조절에 미치는 영향을 검증하고 그 과정에서 정서조절과 긍정적 양육행동의 순차적 매개효과를 분석하였다. 만 3~5세 유아를 양육하는 어머니 300명을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였으며, SPSS PROCESS macro를 활용한 순차적 매개 분석을 수행하였다. 연구 결과, 어머니의 정신화는 정서조절, 긍정적 양육행동, 유아의 자기조절과 유의한 정적 상관을 보였다. 또한, 정신화와 유아의 자기조절 간 관계에서 정서조절의 단일 매개효과는 유의하지 않았으나, 긍정적 양육행동의 매개효과는 유의하게 나타났다. 더불어 정서조절과 긍정적 양육행동의 순차적 매개효과가 유의한 것으로 확인되었다. 이러한 결과는 어머니의 정신화가 유아 자녀의 자기조절에 영향을 미치는 과정에서 정서조절과 긍정적 양육행동이라는 구체적인 매개 기제가 작동함을 밝힘으로써, 부모의 내적 심리역량이 실제 양육행동을 통해 자녀 발달로 이어지는 경로를 확인하였다는 점에서 의의가 있다. 또한 부모교육 및 상담 개입에서는 정신화 향상뿐 아니라 정서조절과 양육행동을 함께 고려한 통합적 접근이 필요함을 시사한다.
This study examined the effect of maternal mentalization on preschoolers’ self-regulation and the sequential mediating roles of emotion regulation and positive parenting behavior. A survey was conducted with 300 mothers of children aged 3 to 5 years, and a sequential mediation analysis was performed using the SPSS PROCESS macro. Maternal mentalization was positively associated with emotion regulation, positive parenting behavior, and preschoolers’ self-regulation. While the simple mediating effect of emotion regulation was not significant, the mediating effect of positive parenting behavior was significant. In addition, the sequential mediating effects of emotion regulation and positive parenting behavior were significant. These findings suggest that maternal mentalization influences preschoolers’ self-regulation through specific mediating mechanisms and highlight the need for integrated approaches in parent education and counseling interventions.
