Abstract
Through analyzing papers on digital libraries and the contexts of usage of the term, ‘digital library’, this study investigates that the professional discourses about digital libraries regard them digital technologies. But digital libraries need to be recognized as socio-technical networks which are constructed by social interaction between heterogeneous elements. The study suggested that Social Informatics and a STIN(Socio-Technical Interaction Network) model should be applied to understand and analyze digital libraries as socio-technical networks.
Abstract
This study is to represent the research trends of library & information science in Korea through an analysis of the master's and doctor's dissertations published from 1959 through 2002. The results of this study are as follows: The average yearly dissertations: 38.5 pieces; the year published the largest number of dissertations: 2002; the order of the number of dissertations by the domain of library ＆ information science: library management, information science, public service, organizing library materials, bibliography, collection development (management), history of books & libraries, foundations of library & information science.
Abstract
Nowadays many academic libraries have considered and some have implemented the just-in-time(access) approach to collection development especially of scholarly journals. The adaption of the scholarly electronic journal based on access paradigm has brought a number of advantages and disadvantages to academic libraries. Electronic journals have promised rapid delivery of the latest research to the desktop through the ubiquitous platform of the Internet. But the promise of the e-journal is not yet a reality, and there are many misconceptions about what is actually available today. The objective of this paper is to analyse the probabilities of digital achilles tendon of scholarly journals resulting from a decline of purchase power, absence of selection(evaluation) criteria, superfluities and abuses of impact factor, access paradigm and halo effects, mismatching of demand-supply, md insufficiency in subject gateway functions.
Abstract
Korea is in the state of insufficient supply of research information, a gap of information between universities and absolute depends on foreign information resource. So it is necessary to activate inter-libray research information resource sharing. To encourage consciousness and spontaneous effort to inter-libray research information resource sharing, university libray evaluation system of contribution toward resource sharing is required. This study intends to survey present condition of inter-libray research information research information in Korea, and develope evaluation system about inter-libray research information resource sharing. And propose operating methods of evaluation system about insert established university evaluation system or execute independently.
Abstract
Electronic books offer various possibilities for expanding access as well as changing reading behavior in our life. However despite the considerable promise of e-book, e-book market was not vitalized than re expected. This study investigated the current e-book environment and suggest some guidelines for making e-books a viable part of libraries' collections and our reading life. Findings and issues about the status of the current e-book market and technologies, and some experience of libraries in the advanced countries give us a lesson for the Korean library societies.
Abstract
This study is on the reading movement of public library. The purpose of this study is to provide who and how to campaign reading for library users. In conclusion, I'd like to claim that the dean of public library have to make efforts first and the librarians also have to develop various programs for library users continually.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to present an activation model of the culture program and reading activity at public libraries in Seoul City. For this purpose it is to review theoretical basis on public library culture program and reading activity, and to analyze the present status of them and then to introduce the case of Nowon Children's Library Culture Program and Reading Activity as a form of the characteristic program of public library supporting the culture and reading activities in Seoul City.
Abstract
In order for public education to iud its balance, stronger arts education program is necessary. Successful delivery of arts education program is expected when it is implemented in cooperation with public library, which is at the heart of community culture and education. Under these assumptions, this study determined current status of arts education programs by investigating public library documents. The research also verified the prospect of facilitating the programs with public library support with survey. Based on the findings, problems in current public library were identified and alternatives for seamless collaboration with schools were recommended.
Abstract
Reading is a typical representative knowledge and information activities. It is a put of the presents man and by itself Read-learning is the cognitive and social activities of the creating platonic world. However, in the education training of students become a visible problems of read-learning too many. To solve the problems have to pull off a systematical plan in read activities. This aims to purpose the model of the union reading contents management as the method for the read activity based on the problems analysis of read-learning activity. It is reading contents management as the model knowledge cresting processes.
Abstract
The purpose of this study aims to provide possible suggestions for the improvement of the korean Decimal Classification System in 21th century through the analysis of language field as the subject of study. As a result of this study, some problems(for example, irrational classification number system, very simplicity of <TEX>$\ulcorner$</TEX>Subdivisions of Individual languages md languages families<TEX>$\lrcorner$</TEX>, improper languages development insufficiency of note etc.) were found out. This study can be useful for the future revision of KDC4 because a revolutionary improvement were provided.
Abstract
This study is to analyze the historical developments of references on cataloging rules. References is named cross reference on The Panizzi' and Jewett' Report and defined at Rules for a Dictionary Catalog by Charles A. Cutter. References is developed to “see reference”, “see-also reference”, “name-title reference”, and “explanatory reference” on AACR2. References have traditionally been regarded as syndetic devices, making it possible to retrieve and connect related works. Conclusionally, it functions as a tool which directly connect all the works related but in different formats of a same author name and a same title name. In online catalogues, it means that the role and function of references have increasingly become extended to be very important.
Abstract
There are speculations toward public libraries in Korea including the destructive crisis in public libraries. As leaders in these organizations, the directors of public libraries need to be interested in the subject of leadership. Leadership is a major component of management of an organization in transition. The subject once was a sub-field prospered especially in 1970's and 1980's. Since then the perceptions of researchers and practitioners have changed due to new technologies. Recent literature in the field illustrates wide variety of concerns and issues of public library management. This paper attempts to highlight such issues and perceptions of the real world of libraries, portrayed through a qualitative analysis.
Abstract
To understand the literacy and library users of Korean society, various historical data and statistics were gathered and analyzed. The findings are: 1) lineage, commerce, and religion in ancient Korean society and the social class in Koryo and Lee Dynasty were related to the literacy, and 2) the size of collection, increase of books, library budgets and the policy of national library are also somewhat related to the library hem at present.
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to review the school library movement of provincial level. For the purpose current school library movement of Gyeonggy-Do and Gyeongsangbuk-Do are analyzed. The writer looks into motivations, strategies, accomplishments, and characteristics of the movements at the viewpoint of comparison.
