This study identified latent profile subtypes of non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) functions among 600 adults and examined associated addictive features and network structures. Latent Profile Analysis identified three subtypes: the ‘Complex Function Group’ (12.8%), ‘Intrapersonal Function Group’ (30.7%), and ‘Limited Functional Motives Group’ (56.5%), which was characterized by a restricted range of NSSI motives. Addictive features were highest in the Complex Function Group, followed by the Intrapersonal and Limited Groups. Network analysis indicated that ‘Addiction’ and ‘Autonomy’ were key bridge centralities in the Complex Group, whereas ‘Affect Regulation’ and ‘Peer Bonding’ were central in the Intrapersonal Group. However, the Network Comparison Test indicated no significant structural differences between the Complex and Intrapersonal Groups. This structural homogeneity suggests that the Intrapersonal Group may represent a lower severity stage along a continuum, with potential progression toward the Complex Group. These findings provide empirical support for developing tailored intervention strategies based on functional NSSI subtypes.
