Abstract

The purpose of this study is to develop a list of recommended books for adolescents in correctional facilities to help them enjoy a smooth reading life. To achieve this purpose, the research contents and methods included a literature review to identify the characteristics of adolescents in correctional facilities, in-depth interviews with adolescents and an online survey of staff to investigate their needs for a smooth reading life in correctional facilities, and the results were analyzed. In addition, expert advisory opinions were reflected. As a result of the research, the following book lists were developed: bibliotherapy: Level 1 (20 picture books), Level 2 (20 youth literature), career reading: Level 1 (20 picture books), Level 2 (20 literature/ non-literature), literacy enhancement: Level 1 (20 picture books/fairy tales), Level 2 (20 literature/non-literature), and Level 3 (8 literature/non-literature). The results of this study will help develop a list of recommended books for the psychological and emotional stability, literacy for learning, and career exploration of youth in correctional facilities who are in special environments, and will be helpful for providing leisure activities, learning, and career guidance in correctional facilities. In addition, the list of recommended books will be added on a continuous and regular basis, and will be used as basic data for building a customized book list database for youth in correctional facilities.
