The sentences with -janh- or -ji anh- in their predicates(‘janh-contruction’ hereafter) have widely been regarded as tag questions, but they are not synchronically. janh- and -ji anh- are the allomorphs of the same morpheme which belongs to prefinal endings. janh-constructions are syntactically distinct from negative questions, though they seem to be alike in both form and meaning. janh-constructions have originated from tag questions, which stems from the sequence of two sentences, the sentence ending in sentence-final ending -ji and the sentence that has the form of ‘geureohji anh-+an interrogative ending’. janh-constructions can be used only as yes-no questions, and cannot end in sentence-final ending -ji, because they came from tag questions.
