이승만과 맥아더 그리고 대한민국 정부수립

Syngman Rhee, MacArthur and the Establishment of the Government of the Republic of Korea

Abstract

At present, it is occurred that controversy on the Ceremony of 60th Years of Republic of Korea is whether 'Nation Founding' or 'Establishment of the Government'. The present writer suggested fragmentary of this historical meaning about this discrepancy of two words. Also, in this issue based, I would investigate the relation between Syngman Rhee and Douglas MacArthur and establishment of the government of the Republic of Korea. Two persons had strong influence on the political climate of South Korea after the liberation in August 15, 1945. Rhee returned country October 16, 1945, as influential politician before anything else. Early coming home of Rhee under the patronage of MacArthur was trace of his rising of political circles in the South Korea. At that time, in the political change by the Department of State's control, MacArthur supported Rhee's claims of separate southern regime. US-USSR Joint Commission on Korea had rupture, and MacArthur recommended whole amendment about U. S. policy on Korea, with recommending submission of “Entire Korean Problem to United Nations”. After all, resolution of “the problem of the independence of Korea” was adopted by the U. N. General Assembly on November 14, 1947 at its 112th plenary meeting, and general election was only held in South Korea and after establishment of the government of the Republic of Korea was elected in August 15, 1948. Between Rhee and MacArthur, it was three point of sameness: Antipathy against Pacifist, Anti-communism and Anti-Soviet and the Christianity. These common features acted as mediators between two persons, and affected the establishment of government of the Republic of Korea.
