원측과 티베트 불교 : 쫑카빠의 『꾼쉬깐델』을 중심으로

Won-Cheug and Tibetan Buddhism‒with special reference to Kun gṣiḥi dkaḥ ḥgrel by Tsong-kha-pa

Abstract

This thesis is to look into a part of influence of Won-Cheug(圓測 613-696) on Tibetan Buddhism, through a clue of Won-Cheung’s Saṃdhinirmocanasūtra-ṭīkā, which was quoted in Tsong-kha-pa(1367-1419)’s Kun gṣiḥi dkaḥ ḥgrel. Tsong-kha-pa clearly understands Zhen-di(眞諦 499-569)’s The Theory of Nine Minds referring to Saṃdhinirmocanasūtra-ṭīkā, and for this part, he mainly cites Won-Cheug’s Saṃdhinirmocanasūtra-ṭīkā. However memo on a kārikā(1-3) of Madhyāntavibhāga-bhāṣya and notes on Madhyamaka-hṛdaya-sāstra reveal the fact that Tsong-kha-pa does not acknowledge the information, passed on by Won-Cheug, blindly. Whenever the relevant buddhist literatures appear Tsong-kha-pa compares them with existing buddhist literatures in Tibetan translation of those time and through such a precise methodological research work he appears to be a critical intellectual who re-appreciates the legitimacy of information introduced by Won-Cheug. Tsong-kha-pa’s critical attitude is quite prominent in the criticism of The Theory of Nine Minds. Unlike the introduction of The Theory of Nine Minds, where he completely quotes Won-Cheug’s Saṃdhinirmocanasūtra-ṭīkā, he criticizes independently without considering Won-Cheug’s criticism on The Theory of Nine minds much. In this thesis, in order to reach out such a conclusion, it is aimed to make a new edition on a part related to The Theory of Nine Minds in Samdhinirmocanasūtra-ṭīkā. It is aimed to make a revised edition of Tsong-kha-pa’s Kun gṣiḥi dkaḥ ḥgrel and its korean translation, and through the collate work on Chos-grub’s Tibetan translation and Won-Cheug’s Chinese original edition of Samdhinirmocanasūtra-ṭīkā , the new edition of Samdhinirmocanasūtra-ṭīkā is presented. Through the collate work following facts are revealed. Firstly, both present Chinese edition and Tibetan-translated edition of Samdhinirmocanasūtra-ṭīkā are prominent in their incompleteness. Secondly, Chos-grub’s translation is comparatively substantial to the Chinese edition and it shows a shape of the Chinese manuscript introduced in early 9th century. Lastly, for proofreading the complete edition of Samdinirmocanasūtra-ṭīkā an endless collation work is essential between the present Chinese edition and Chos-grub’s Tibetan-translated edition.
