The first text about Iljimae we can find is Neungmongcho’s Igakbag angyeonggi. After that the Iljimae’s story was showed on Hwanhuiwonga in china, was introduced into Korea. In this book, Neungmongcho wrote these things: Who is Iljimae, his belonging, his good points such as helping a person not himself by stolen goods, having the ability to accommodate oneself to circumstances etc. Also Neungmongcho explained his thefts by giving specific examples. In these story, the writer criticized the government’s selection of fit persons for higher positions. He said the government make Iljimae theft. But his project was not going just as I intended. The readers like Iljimae’ playfulness. Iljimae’ image in the book Igakbagangyeonggi is different with books of korea. Chinese Iljimae display his ability to the people ask for him, give a person the business for fun. But the story book of Iljimae in korea includes many wicked man who oppress the people. Iljimae always helps the people. He distributes money and food to the poor. Chinese iljimae is a person of high talents, korean iljimae is a legendary outlaw. So the meaning of an ume flower is not important for chinese iljimae, but is important for korean iljimae. Because an ume flower represents hope, and iljimae also represents hope.
