Abstract

Daxuejishu(『大學疾書』) by Seongho(星湖) had attempted to contend a new thing under the principle of be self‒satisfied through skeptical point of view(懷疑를 통한 自得) of Daxuezhangju(『大學章句』) written by Zhuzi(朱子). But he had not asserted himself many a new view on account of following the theory intact asserted by Zhuzi(朱子) in Daxuezhangju(『大學章句』) written by Zhuzi(朱子). Seongho(星湖) had followed the system set up in the Daxuezhangju(『大學章句』) by Zhuzi(朱子). Accordingly the problems arising from such sources are quite similar to Zhuzi(朱子). Although Juja put emphasis on Sangangling(三綱領) and Batiaomu(八條目), he had inserted Zhizhijie(知止節) and Wuyoubenmojie(物有本末節) in between Sangangling(三綱領) and Batiaomu(八條目). Seongho(星湖) was on the same page. This part was already indicated as a problem by Hoejae(晦齋). And, on the subject of Mingmingde(明明德), it was well brought to light the unique character of Seongho(星湖) from the standpoint of be self-satisfied through skeptical point of view(懷疑를 통한 自得). As in Qinmin(親民) or Xinmin(新民), the reason why the letter, Qin(親) understood as Xin(新) was explained only by a short sentence, however, it is inappropriate in a sense of be self‒satisfied through skeptical point of view(懷疑를 통한 自得). Seongho(星湖) didn’t make an interpretation only Chapter 4. This part is related to the interpretation of Zhizhijie(知止節) and Wuyoubenmojie(物有本末節) in the scripture, so thus it is important. However, Seongho(星湖) did not interpret this section. Seongho(星湖) had presented a writing namely Daxuechuyuyi(「大學出於易」) in the Xinghusaishuo(『星湖僿說』), but this is a part of doubt if it is a really Seongho(星湖)’s work. Seongho(星湖) mostly shared the view of Zhuzi(朱子) about Gewuzhizhi(格物致知), and he hadn’t seem to discontent replacing Chapter 5 with Gewu‒zhizhibumangzhang(「格物致知補亡章」). Specially mentioned section was only that Gewuzhizhibumangzhang(「格物致知補亡章」) was done by joint works of Chengzi(程子) and Zhuzi(朱子), and creating Daxuezhangju(『大學章句』) by independence Daxue(『大學』) from Book of Liji(『禮記』), and inserted it into Chapter 5.
