본 연구는 ADHD 성향을 지닌 성인들의 공감 수준을 확인하고, 공감이 성인 ADHD 성향과 대인관계문제 간의 관계를 매개하는지 살펴보고자 실시되었다. ADHD 성향 집단(50명)과 통제집단(48명)을 대상으로 상태 공감 실험 과제 및 특성 공감, 대인관계문제에 대한 설문을 실시하였다. 연구 결과, ADHD 성향 집단은 통 제집단에 비해 타인지향적 공감(특성 및 상태 인지적 공감, 공감적 관심)이 낮은 반면, 자기지향적 공감(특 성-정서공유)은 높은 것으로 나타났다. 또한 통제집단에 비해 대인관계문제의 모든 하위영역(향함, 맞섬, 멀 어짐)에서 어려움을 높게 보고하였다. 자기지향적 공감은 ADHD 성향과 향함, 맞섬 사이를 부분매개하고, 타인지향적 공감은 ADHD 성향과 맞섬 사이를 부분매개, ADHD 성향과 멀어짐 사이를 완전매개하는 것으 로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 ADHD 성향을 가진 성인들의 대인관계문제가 그들의 공감 패턴에서 기인할 수 있음을 시사하며, ADHD 성향이 높은 성인들은 타인지향적 공감이 낮을수록 대인관계에서 맞섬과 멀어 짐의 문제를 더 많이 경험하고 자기지향적 공감이 높을수록 대인관계에서 향함과 맞섬의 문제를 더 많이 경험할 수 있음을 보여준다.
This study examined empathy in adults with ADHD traits and examined whether empathy mediates the relationship between ADHD traits and interpersonal problems. An ADHD trait group (n = 50) and a control group (n = 48) completed tasks and questionnaires assessing state and trait empathy and interpersonal problems. The ADHD trait group showed significantly lower levels of other-oriented empathy (trait and state cognitive empathy and empathic concern) but higher levels of self-oriented empathy (trait affective sharing) than the control group. Moreover, they also reported greater difficulties across all subdomains of interpersonal problems: moving toward, against, and away from people. Self-oriented empathy partially mediated the effects of ADHD traits on moving toward and against people, while other-oriented empathy partially mediated the effects of ADHD traits on moving against people and fully mediated the effects of ADHD traits on moving away from people. These results suggest that distinct empathy profiles may contribute to interpersonal problems in adults with ADHD traits.
