This study examined the effects of subjective cognitive decline (SCD) and sleep quality on the occurrence and resolution of the tip-of-the-tongue (TOT) phenomenon. Adults aged ≥ 55 years with healthy cognitive function participated in a celebrity naming task, and their performance was compared across groups. Participants were classified into four groups based on the presence of SCD and sleep quality: healthy control with good sleep (n = 22), healthy control with poor sleep (n = 19), SCD with good sleep (n = 21), and SCD with poor sleep (n = 19). Key findings of the study included significant differences in the rate of TOT episodes and TOT resolution types between groups based on SCD and sleep quality. However, the interaction of SCD and sleep quality on the rate of TOT episodes and TOT resolution types was not significant. These findings suggest that both SCD and sleep quality influence the TOT phenomenon and are closely linked to cognitive deterioration.
