현대공감이론을 통한 공맹철학의 재조명 프란스 드 발의 통섭적 공감 이론을 중심으로

초록
공감은 스코틀랜드 계몽철학 이래 인간의 도덕적 본성을 설명하는 핵심 개념이다. 이 글은 공감을 주제로, 18세기 스코틀랜트 계몽철학 이래 전개되고 있는 공감도덕론의 현대적 논의를 소개하고 있다. 흄과 스미스의 공감 개념은 다윈에게 많은 영향을 미쳤을 뿐만 아니라 최근 제기되고 있는 통섭적 공감이론에서 활용되고 있다. 이 글은 특히 현대공감이론 연구자 중 세계적 영장류 학자인 프란스 드 발의 통섭적 공감이론에 주목한다. 그 이유는 첫째, 지각 행동 연계 메커니즘 연구 등을 제시하고 있는 드 발의 통섭적 공감이론 성과는 공감 개념을 이해하는 데 중요한 시사점을 제공하기 때문이다. 둘째, 드 발의 통섭적 공감연구가 공맹철학의 현대적 재조명을 위한 중요한 교두보가 되고 있기 때문이다. 이상의 논의를 통하여 이 글은 18세기 공감도덕론의 주요한 흐름과 쟁점을 제시하는 한편, 서구 영장류 학자의 최신예 공감이론을 통하여 공맹철학의 도덕론적 가치를 새롭게 조망해보고자 한다.

Abstract
It is well-known that sympathy is the important notion to explain the moral instinct ever since the philosophy of scottish enlightenment. This paper is an introduction to the modern debate on the subject of sympathy, since the 18th century Scottish enlightenment philosophy. David Hume and Adam Smith’s concept of sympathy have influenced a lot of Charles Darwin, as well as being raised in recent theory of sympathy has been used. This article focusing on the modern theory of sympathy, especially draws attention to the famous of primate research scholar Frans de Waal’s theory of the consilience on sympathy. The reason is first, the ‘Perception-Action Mechanism(PAM)’ suggested by which de Waal’s research results, has important implications for understanding the sympathy. Second, de Waal’s research in the consilience on sympathy is an important bridgehead for revisiting the Confucian and Mencian moral Philosophy. Through the above discussion, this article present the major trends and issues in the 18th century moral theory, on the other hand, to evaluate the newly envisioned the value of the Confucian and Mencian moral Philosophy through the Western scholars of the state-of-the-art primate’s theory of the sympathy.
