This study is to represent the research trends of the library & information science in Korea through an analysis of papers on journals of 7 library & information science societies, collection of papers in celebration of the founding of 16 departments of library & information science and journals published at 3 specialized institutions from 1957 through 2002. The result of this study are as follows : The average yearly papers: in the case of journals published at the specialized institutions - 42.6 pieces; in the case of the academic journals - 63.1 pieces. The year published the largest nmber of papers: 2002; the order of the number of papers by the domain of library & information science: information science, bibliography, library management, organizing library materials, public service, foundations of library & information science, history of books & libraries, collection development.
The purpose of this paper is to find out the present status of core courses offered at the Departments of Library and Information Science. For this purpose, the core courses in the curriculum, which were compulsory ones in the 19805, are analyzed. The result shows that there have not been many changes in the core courses offered and that traditional cores of selection, organization, services, administration and information science-related courses are still strongly extant.
It is needed that academic libraries in Korea establish appropriate management strategies for their information services and organization development. Strategic plan can be an effective tool for those strategies. This study examined the concept and establishing process of strategic plan. And this study looked into the strategic planning of Indiana State University libraries as a case. As the result of research, this study provided some considerations for the establishment of strategic plans in Korean academic libraries.
The purpose of this paper is to review the change of school library in Korea. The writer keeps an eye on the 'School Library Activation Project' initiated by the Ministry of Education. The writer concludes by pointing out some problems of school library in Korea at its present developmental stage.
This paper takes a new open access digital library system to enhancing the process of scholarly communication such as journal publishing, article dissemination, etc. It examines also the causes of crisis in scholarly communication, new alternative models, related activities and case studies. The open access digital library is a practical, cost-effective digital collections capturing and preserving the intellectual output of academic institution including university, research institute.
The number of elderly people is increasing rapidly in Korea. A large part of their information seeking behaviors are changed form a few conventional types of media such as letters to computers and Internet. Their use of computers and Internet, however, was difficult due to various problems including the interface especially. This work has examined and analysed the basic elements and components of interface design for the elderly people into the previous papers. The result of the study would be applied to the public libraries for the elderly and the interface design within the institution.
The core version of UDC(Universal Decimal Classification) is available in an electronic form called MRF(Master Reference File) which supports the maintenance of the quality of the scheme as a working tool for the UDCC(UDC Consortium) by annual reviewing its content and initiating revisions and extensions. In this paper, we discuss outcomes of our in-depth analysis of the geography, biography and history disciplines in UDC focused on the its evolutions and characteristics, including the common auxiliaries of place, the common auxiliaries of time and the common auxiliaries of race, ethnic grouping and nationality. Based on the in-depth analysis, we suggested some ideas which can be applied into the history class of KDC(Korean Decimal Classification). In particular, its principle of combination methods in the history of individual regions, the way of its assignment of physical geography and human geography in the same division, the possibilities of the extension of the table of geographical division and the adaptation of the table of chronological division in KDC.
Due to rapid internet supply and the increase of electronic resources including network resources, there has been a sudden change in cataloguing fields. To deal with rapid changes, IFLA revised cataloguing rules for electronic and continuing resources; ISBD(ER) and ISBD(CR). This study is to analyze activities of IFLA and ISBD(CR), expecially in regards with concepts of continuing resources, new categories of bibliographic materials, major or minor changes in title proper, basis of the description, material specific area, definition of a new terminologies, changes in AACR2R 2002 revision and MARC 21 coding, and issues concerned with revision of KCR 4 and KORMARC.
Semantic quirks about the concept of metadata are briefly probed. The reasons behind the conceptual drift are also reviewed. Regarding different formats of metadata, the rationale behind the creation of new formats, their characteristics in relation to MARC format, and problems and methods of conversion or integration of metadata are investigated as background study. RDF (Resource Description Framework) as an integration tool for different metadata standards and Metadata Registry as a candidate for the purpose are studied and the both are compared. It is concluded that two approaches are not mutually exclusive, rather they are complimentary.
For the sake of activating web-based reading education in the public libraries, This study examine the practical use of web-based reading education and research into its activation. Web-based reading, red the book at any time/where with librarian and user, is to achieve the goal of reading education. The methods are to set up Home page of reading education through Internet, to guide user in various web-based reading materials and reading planning at any time. In addition, It is to be completed interactive action such as book review, reading dicussion through E-mail, a bulletin board, chatting etc. with librarian or user.
In this paper, we have focused that the number of word in the web document affects definite clustering performance. Our experimental results have clearly shown the relationship between the amounts of word and its impact on clustering performance. We also have presented an algorithm that can be supplemented of the contrast portion through co-links frequency of web documents. Testing bench of this research is 1,449 web documents included on 'Natural science' category among the Naver Directory. We have clustered these objects by term-based clustering, link-based clustering, and hybrid clustering method, and compared the output results with originally allocated category of Naver directory.

The purpose of this paper is to investigate a pattern of letter movement that is conatituted between the original of Wu gou jing guang dai tuo luo ni jing and the existence it saw and a letter mobile state of Wu gou jing guang dai tuo luo ni jing that is discovered in Seokga-pagoda at Kyungju in Korea. In view of the results so far achieved, the original of Wu gou jing guang dai tuo luo ni jing was identified that Dunhuang sakyung is the earliest original among the existence it saw and it was changed once at Fang shan seokyung, Zhao cheng jing and koryeojang and was largely changed at Wu gou jing guang dai tuo Iuo ni jing, Zi fu zang, Qi sha zang, Yong le nan zang, Jing shan zang and Qing zang that was discovered in Seokga-pagoda. The bottom book and genealogy of Wu gou jing guang dai tuo luo ni jing were presumed that it was closely connected with the bottom book Zi fu zang because a letter mobile state of Wu gou jing guang dai tuo luo ni jing that was discovered in Seokga-pagoda was exposed without discrimination.
The purpose of this paper is to identify woodblocks which were engraved in the providences in the mid Chosun dynasty, especially ones engraved under the auspices of Yu Heui-chun(柳希春), but not listed in <TEX>$\boxDr$</TEX>Kosachwalyo 攷事撮要<TEX>$\boxUl$</TEX>. This could be done by the analyzing <TEX>$\boxDr$</TEX>The Diary of Miam 眉巖日記<TEX>$\boxUl$</TEX> written by Yu Heui-chun. It is a book which recorded daily life of eminent scholar and official covering political, social and cultural aspects, books and family matters. There were two categories of books published under the auspices of Yu Heui-chun. One is the books written by his grandfather in law, Choi Bu(崔溥), which were <TEX>$\boxDr$</TEX>Keumnamjip 錦南集<TEX>$\boxUl$</TEX> collective works of Choi Bu, and <TEX>$\boxDr$</TEX>Pyohaerog 漂海錄<TEX>$\boxUl$</TEX>, essays on travelling across China. The other is the books for children, <TEX>$\boxDr$</TEX>Sinjeung Yuhap 新增類合<TEX>$\boxUl$</TEX> for teaching characters and <TEX>$\boxDr$</TEX>Sog Mong-gu 續蒙求<TEX>$\boxUl$</TEX> for moral education. These woodblocks have to enlisted in the woodblock catalogs. The analysis shows that most of these woodblocks by Yu Heui-chun were not recorded in either of two <TEX>$\boxDr$</TEX>Kosachwalyo 攷事撮要<TEX>$\boxUl$</TEX> editions published in 1575 and 1585. In this respect, <TEX>$\boxDr$</TEX>The Diary of Miam<TEX>$\boxUl$</TEX> proved itself to be of great significance in terms of bibliography studies.
Classification of archival collections in China is usually divided into two approaches, arrangement classification and retrieval classification. Focusing on arrangement of archives, this paper reviews what is the content and principle of arrangement, and how these principles are applied to actual arrangement of records and archives in China. The review examines the historical archives of Rep. of China, in the Second Historical Archives of China. It is expected that current review could enlighten studies on arrangement of historical archives created by Government-General of Chosun.
The purpose of this study is to develop a general model for web-based children's literature education and to validate the model. Both qualitative and quantitative methods were used for the analysis of this study. The findings of this research were three point. At First, the model of web-based children's literature education have five major components i.e., objects, construction of activity, display of activity, management of it, and evaluation of it. At second, the creative writing was revealed the core of the web-based children's education. The third, web-based children's literature activity can be followed by cyber learning community activities.
