Purpose: This study analyzes structural risks during temporary earth-retaining structure (TERS) dismantling and examines the limitations of monitoring-based safety management, focusing on a fatal H-pile dismantling accident at a railway subgrade construction site in Dangjin, Chungnam Province, Korea (August 2019). The research particularly investigates structural re-equilibration, load redistribution during brace removal, and the linkage between monitoring anomalies and failures in work-stoppage decision-making. Results: The analysis confirms that, in the Dangjin case, after sequentially cutting seven of eight welded connections between the H-pile and the waler, the final remaining joint could not withstand the highly concentrated load, fractured spontaneously, and caused the waler (H-300×300) to topple and fatally strike a worker. The accident represents a typical failure of structural re-equilibration, as no prior review of load-transfer paths for each cutting sequence had been conducted and no dismantling work plan had been prepared. In addition, although monitoring anomalies during dismantling can function as precursors to progressive collapse rather than simple displacement trends, these signals were not linked to any formal work-stoppage procedure, allowing the risk to escalate. Conclusions: This study conceptualizes TERS dismantling as an independent structural transition phase characterized by intensive structural re-equilibration and nonlinear load redistribution. It highlights the need for rate-of-change-based risk management criteria and for a monitoring-to-decision linkage system that explicitly connects monitoring anomalies to timely work-stoppage decisions in dismantling operations.
Purpose: The purpose of the study is to strengthen durability, secure safety, and reduce the economic burden by identifying the causes of deterioration in durability of existing PE pontoon structures (natural factors, design and construction problems, and materials and maintenance factors) and presenting directions for improvement of materials used. Research method (manufacturing method) : It is a research method (manufacturing method) on high-strength pontoon structures with strong high strength bolts and nuts with strong horizontal and vertical bonding structures between pontoon blocks, respectively, using high-strength polyethylene /polyaramid/teflon resin mixtures as pontoon materials.Research Results : It is a high-intensity sea-level pontoon structure that does not cause the pontoon structure to unravel, destroy, and disengage from the coupling device even due to waves, typhoons, and other collision torsions of floating objects floating on the sea.Conclusion : By improving the pontoon material and bonding method of this study, quality and safety were ensured by always maintaining high strength quality, improved bonding of connections, durability, corrosion resistance, maintenance, reduction of environmental impact, aesthetic perspective, and durability deterioration factors.
Purpose: The objective of this research was to develop and evaluate a peer-led smoking prevention program for Vietnamese adolescents living in rural areas. Research design, data, and methodology: The study was carried out in three stages: program development, intervention implementation, and evaluation. Program development involved five phases: needs assessment, program design, evaluation of the program content and cultural suitability, evaluation of program applicability, and final program design. The developed program was delivered by trained peer educators to second-year middle school students in Region T, Vietnam, in a single 40-minute session. The program was evaluated using a quasi-experimental, non-equivalent control group pre-posttest design, and a posttest survey was conducted four months after the intervention. Results: The results showed no significant difference between the experimental and control groups. These findings suggest that repeated and continuous educational programs are needed to achieve long-term educational effects among adolescents.
Purpose: This study examines perceptions of gender parity (50:50 representation) and support for gender equality policies in South Korea, and contextualizes the South Korean findings using the pooled European Social Survey (ESS) sample as a broader comparative benchmark. It also descriptively compares mean policy support across levels of gender parity perceptions. Research design, data and methodology: Weighted descriptive analyses were conducted using the 2025 Korean General Social Survey (KGSS) and ESS Round 11. Gender parity perceptions were examined in the family, business, and political domains, and support was assessed for equal parental leave, fines for unequal pay, and equal parliamentary representation. Comparisons were also made across gender, age, experience of discrimination, and political orientation. Results: Gender parity perceptions were generally positive in both samples but showed greater socio-demographic variation in South Korea. South Korea showed higher support than the pooled ESS sample for equal parental leave, whereas the pooled ESS sample showed higher support for fines for unequal pay and equal parliamentary representation. Mean policy support was generally higher among respondents with more positive perceptions of gender parity, although differences across perception categories varied by policy domain and sample. Conclusions: The findings show heterogeneous descriptive patterns across policy domains and social groups. They should not be interpreted as statistically adjusted associations or causal effects.
This study examines the relationship between the implementation of the Serious Accidents Punishment Act and safety performance in public institutions, with particular attention to organizational capability, risk assessment, safety education, and safety culture. It also investigates the mediating role of safety culture in the relationships between safety-management factors and safety performance. Data were collected from 250 valid respondents, including employees of a public institution and workers from partner companies. SPSS 29.0 and AMOS 29.0 were employed for reliability analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, structural equation modeling, and bootstrapping analysis. The results showed that organizational capability (β=.28, p<.001), risk assessment (β=.32, p<.001), and safety education (β=.27, p<.001) significantly influenced safety culture. Organizational capability (β=.68, p<.001), risk assessment (β=.47, p<.001), and safety education (β=.12, p<.05) also had significant positive effects on safety performance. Safety culture demonstrated a significant positive effect on safety performance (β=.56, p<.001), while bootstrapping confirmed its significant mediating effects. These findings indicate that effective implementation of the Act requires an integrated safety-management approach that strengthens organizational capability, systematic risk assessment, safety education, and a participatory safety culture. Such integration can contribute to sustainable improvements in safety performance in public institutions.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to conduct an in-depth analysis of conglomerate executives' erotic capital as perceived by employees of large corporations through inductive content analysis based on open-ended questionnaires. Research design, data and methodology: The data collection method involved 200 employees of large corporations who completed an open-ended questionnaire about the erotic capital of executives as perceived in the workplace. Results: First, a total of 849 raw data items on executives' erotic capital as perceived by employees of large corporations were identified, including Appearance, Respect, Fashion Style, Intellectual Ability, Self-Management, Voice, Liveliness, Communication, and Etc. Nine general areas were derived, and a total of 23 detailed areas were categorized. Second, regarding executives' erotic capital by gender, men showed the highest response frequencies in the order of Respect, Appearance, and Fashion Style, whereas women showed the highest response frequencies in the order of Appearance, Fashion Style, and Intellectual Ability. Third, regarding executives' erotic capital by age, the group in their 20s showed the highest response frequencies in the order of Appearance, Fashion Style, and Intellectual Ability; the group in their 30s, Appearance, Liveliness, and Communication; the group in their 40s, Appearance, Respect, and Fashion Style; and the group aged 50 or older, Respect, Intellectual Ability, and Appearance. Conclusions: This study findings provide a basis for developing a quantitative measurement scale and contribute to expanding future research on executives' erotic capital.
Purpose: This study analyzed the styles of 5th generation K-pop idol groups that debuted in or after 2022 and have more than five million followers on Instagram, focusing on the characteristics of Y2K fashion. Research design, data and methodology: The characteristics of Y2K fashion were classified based on a review of previous studies. Visual materials were collected from televised music program performances, official performance videos released by the groups’ entertainment agencies, and other relevant sources, and were comparatively analyzed. Results: NewJeans emphasized a natural and youthful image through high-teen style. LE SSERAFIM presented a healthy and athletic image through athleisure style. BABYMONSTER combined athleisure style with hip-hop elements to express a free-spirited image. ILLIT highlighted a lovely and youthful image through high-teen style. NMIXX used high-teen style to emphasize a confident and assertive image. Conclusions: The 5th generation K-pop idols are using Y2K fashion as a means of expressing their own identity and connecting the past with the present. This brings back memories of the past while communicating with the public, while providing familiarity and newness, suggesting that K-pop idols' Y2K fashion style is not just clothes, but as a medium that expresses the individuality and sensitivity of the generation.
Purpose: This study aims to identify engineering measures for securing the structural safety of temporary scaffolding and protective sheds installed during architectural heritage restoration projects. Unlike ordinary construction sites, heritage restoration sites are highly vulnerable to structural instability because conventional wall-tie installation is restricted to preserve the original fabric of historic structures. Research design, data and methodology: A hybrid approach combining structural analysis and case study investigation was adopted. Design wind pressure and limit-state load combinations acting on temporary structures were quantitatively evaluated based on Korean construction standards, and representative heritage restoration projects were analyzed to assess structural performance under wind loads. Results: The analysis revealed that localized strong winds can generate significant lateral forces on protective sheds and vertical safety nets, increasing the risk of scaffolding overturning. An independent self-supporting structural system separated from the heritage structure, combined with a non-destructive mechanical anchoring method using clamping devices, was found to provide effective lateral shear resistance while preventing physical damage to heritage components. In addition, widening the foundation through outriggers and strategically placing concrete counterweights significantly improved resistance against overturning moments. Conclusions: The findings indicate that conventional temporary structure design methods are insufficient for heritage restoration environments and that specialized design strategies are required to address preservation constraints and wind-induced structural risks. The proposed measures provide practical engineering solutions and may serve as foundational data for establishing heritage-specific temporary structure design guidelines.
Purpose: This study aims to propose architectural planning and remodeling guidelines for transforming underutilized closed school facilities into overnight regional safety experience centers in Mungyeong, Gyeongsangbuk-do. The proposed model is intended to respond to regional population decline while addressing the shortage of public safety education infrastructure in the northwestern region of Gyeongsangbuk-do through the adaptive reuse of abandoned educational facilities. Research design, data and methodology: A comprehensive research framework combining field investigation, case study analysis, demand survey, and architectural planning was adopted. Three representative underutilized closed schools in Mungyeong (Heeyang Branch School, Changgu Branch School, and Cheonghwa Branch School) were investigated to analyze their site conditions, building characteristics, and spatial configurations. In addition, domestic and international case studies on adaptive reuse of closed schools and safety experience facilities were comparatively analyzed. Based on the findings, architectural planning strategies, spatial programming, circulation systems, and operational models suitable for an overnight regional safety experience center were developed. Results: The findings indicate that standard classroom modules (65–75 m²) can be effectively reconfigured into large-scale safety simulation spaces through the integration of adjacent classrooms and appropriate structural reinforcement strategies. Outdoor playgrounds (approximately 10,000 m²) were identified as suitable locations for specialized disaster simulation facilities reflecting the mountainous characteristics of the Baekdudaegan region, including landslide and wildfire experience zones. Furthermore, integrating accommodation facilities within the upper floors of the existing school buildings enables the operation of overnight safety education programs while improving facility utilization through linkage with local tourism resources such as Mungyeongsaejae Provincial Park. A standardized spatial allocation model consisting of Exhibition & Experience (50%), Education & Support (20%), Lodging & Community (20%), and Public & Disaster Response (10%) was also proposed. Conclusions: The proposed architectural planning model demonstrates the potential of closed school facilities to function as sustainable regional safety experience centers while simultaneously supporting local revitalization and disaster preparedness. The planning guidelines presented in this study may serve as a practical reference for local governments and educational authorities in establishing public safety infrastructure through the adaptive reuse of underutilized educational assets.
